hardwood INSTALLATION

We do not consider installing hardwood floors to be DIY-friendly. You will need to have many tools such as saws, leveling tools, compressors, nail guns, sanders, buffers, and adhesives. You will also need expertise of centering rooms, expansion gaps, working around doors, closets, and stairs, and cutting planks for tricky floorplans. Due to the complicated process, money spent on hardwood floors, and the expensive, time-consuming nature of making mistakes, we recommend hiring professionals to install your hardwood floors for best long-term results.

Although you will receive a rough timeline of your hardwood installation, the actual time of the project will depend on factors such as the species of wood installed, the removal of previous flooring, the subfloor prep needed, and any needs of the household. An average install of 1000 sq. ft. or less can be completed within 5 working days.

Hardwood planks must be acclimated for 3 to 5 days in the rooms prior to installation. Keep the temperature and relative humidity set to the normal living conditions of the home in order for the wood to acclimate properly. We recommend the temperature to be between 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the relative humidity between 35 – 50%.

Work with your hardwood installers ahead of time if you are interested in a patterned hardwood installation such as parquet, chevron, herringbone, or diagonal stripe. These patterns will take a little advance planning but can help make an expensive-looking design statement. In smaller kitchens, dining rooms, and bathrooms, these layouts can enhance perspective, distinction, and elevate the overall feel.
