Durable tile flooring is easy to maintain, and removing abrasive particles from the surface will be the key to your regular care routine. Daily or frequent sweeping with a soft bristle broom or dust-mopping will remove tracked-in dirt, dust, debris, and pet dander. If you want to vacuum your tile floor, make sure to avoid heavier vacuum models, models with heavy wheels, and be sure to remove or disengage the beater bar beforehand.

Tile presents a naturally water-resistant material which will allow you to deep clean your floors effectively. You can mop your tile floor with a mild cleaning solution, either a simple water and vinegar solution or an approved tile cleaner. Loosen stains with a soft bristle brush, scrub, and rinse off the cleaning solution by mopping again. Finally, wipe the tile dry with a clean towel or microfiber cloth.

Wipe up spills on your tile when they happen and use a soft, dry cloth, a tile-specific cleaner, and water to spot-clean any stains or dried spills.

It's important to clean any grout lines to restore a bright appearance and prevent the growth of mold or mildew. Use a half-and-half mixture of baking soda and water or a commercially available grout cleaner. Test your cleanser first in a less noticeable location. Avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia, bleach, oil, or any acid. Do not allow any cleaning solution to dry without rinsing it off and avoid using stiff bristle brushes or steel wool when cleaning grout lines.

Use mats at all entranceways to remove debris from footwear before it reaches your tile floors. In the winter months with icy slush, make sure footwear is removed and placed on shoe racks before walking inside. Use area rugs in your hallways and in all high-traffic areas to reduce the wear of foot traffic on the tile surface. Trim pet nails and claws to avoid scratching your tile, brush your cats and dogs regularly to reduce pet dander, and use mats under pet water bowls.
